The difference between chairs and stools as perceived by most people lies in the sitting
position and the sitting comfort. Strictly speaking it would mean this: A stool is hard
and for sitting upright at a table, whereas a chair is upholstered and for relaxing. But
between the extremes of this simplified definition there is a whole range of stools that
have adopted the comfort and relaxation functions of a chair. The idea behind the
Honey Chair is exactly the opposite, however. The question we were up against was:
Can't a chair assume the characteristics of a stool? An experiment. The Honey Chair is a
chair which shows the simplicity, surface and material of a stool.
The Honey Chair clearly displays the geometric trademark. The formal solution is
angular, but nevertheless comfortable. Holzwerkstatt Rehberger, a richly
traditional workshop in Upper Austria, undertakes production.
Der Unterschied zwischen Sessel und Stuhl liegt geläufig in der Sitzposition und dem
Sitzkomfort. Begrifflich streng getrennt hieße das: Stühle sind hart und zum aufrechten
Sitzen an einem Tisch, Sessel sind gepolstert und zur Entspannung bestimmt.
Doch zwischen diesen, vereinfacht dargestellten Definitionen finden sich bereits eine
Vielzahl an Stühlen, die Komfort und Entspannung eines Sessels übernommen haben.
Der Honey Chair ist jedoch in die gegengesetzte Richtung gedacht. Die Frage die sich
uns stellte war: Kann nicht ein Sessel auch die Eigenschaften eines Stuhles übernehmen?
Ein Experiment. Der Honey Chair ist ein Sessel mit der Einfachheit,
Oberfläche und Material eines Stuhles.
